New 6 Week Pilates for Back Care Course

This 6 week course is being hosted by Tanya Ross, lead Therapist and Teacher at TDR Academy of Movement and Therapy. It is suitable for anyone who has an interest in learning the basics of Pilates to begin their journey in learning about the Pilates Method as it relates to back care. Even if you have practiced Pilates before, revisiting and returning to the fundamentals and the principles of back care will help lengthen and strengthen your spine, your surrounding muscles and your daily movements by focussing on what makes Pilates truly effective.

Due to Tanya’s extensive movement and injury training and experience, this class is suitable for anyone and modifications will be incorporated for those with more general back issues or injuries, medical conditions and for post natal (must be 6 weeks post a normal birth and 12 weeks post a Caesarian, and moving generally well in both cases). We strongly advise you get in contact with Tanya to discuss your current health if you have any conditions affecting your health currently to be sure of your suitability for the class. In some cases a 1:1 may be advised before taking part in a class to ensure your movements are screened to help your knowledge and progression with the Pilates Method to discover specific modifications required.

The classes introduce a process each week to learn about your body and develop it while building the movements week by week to help you gain an understanding of the reasons why you should practice Pilates for good physical health and for total body strength and mobility, and learn what helps your back and body. You will experience the lifestyle effects of the Pilates Method in your posture, your daily movements, through your work and leisure activities. It applies to everything in life and helps you develop your body’s movements physically and mindfully. Ultimately, the aim is to give you tools to help you progress your back and your movements to reduce pain and get moving more confidently in your daily life. There will be a learning curve and you will progress with your goals for your body and mindset, and learn a way forward to feel further benefits and work with your back.

During the 6 weeks you will learn how to move safely to:

  • Mobilise Your Spine and Hips

  • Improve Your Posture

  • Stretch & Release Tight Muscles

  • Activate All the Deep Core Muscles

  • Strengthen Functional Movement Patterns

There are a limited number of places available IN STUDIO and as such you are only booked in once you have prepaid to secure your place. This class is also available ONLINE, although if you do have some back issues, I would advise IN STUDIO attandance initially until we learn what is better for your body.

Please note - there will be an option to continue after the 6 weeks to develop your Pilates further, so we do not leave you alone after your initial steps. We are here to support you for as long as is needed. Many people stick with it when they feel the benefits and never leave! Pilates is that awesome!
